Fashion is living shocking moments since the beginning of the year, now, according to reports, Paco Rabanne, well-known fashion designer, died at his home in Portstall, France.
Paco Rabanne’s passing was confirmed by his brand’s parent company, who mentioned that the designer had “marked generations with his radical vision of fashion and his legacy will live on.”
“The House of Paco Rabanne wishes to pay tribute to our visionary designer and founder, who passed away today at the age of 88. Among the most influential fashion figures of the 20th century, his legacy will remain a constant source of inspiration.
We are grateful to Monsieur Rabanne for establishing our avant-garde heritage and defining a future of limitless possibilities,” they wrote via Instagram to communicate his passing.
He was born on February 18, 1934 in San Sebastian and studied Fine Arts in Paris in the architecture section and began designing accessories, jewelry, ties and buttons for Dior, Saint-Laurent and Cardin.
In 1967, Paco Rabanne opened his own couture house in Paris in order to introduce new materials and techniques; he was the first to develop the manufacture of garments woven in plastic, as well as to use leather in the form of straps.
Coco Chanel baptized him as “the metallurgist of fashion” and was known for his eccentric statements, “I have liked esotericism since my earliest childhood. My mother was very pragmatic, but my grandmother was a shaman, she initiated me very early in the knowledge of the world. Fashion allowed me to make a living, but it wasn’t really my focus,” she said in 2005.
