Netflix’s “ATLAS” starring popstar and actress Jennifer Lopez has quickly soared to the top of the most-viewed movies on the platform. Despite initial backlash from critics, the film became an audience favorite and is currently No.1 in the United States and worldwide in a single day.

In the movie, Jennifer Lopez plays Atlas Shepherd, a data analyst who combats regenerating artificial intelligence. The intrigue-packed story features action and drama as the most important elements in the plot, which positions “ATLAS” as yet another Netflix effort to invest in thrillers these past few years.

While the sci-fi and action film seems to be enjoying initial hype from fans and the audience, the critics slammed it down upon its release. With a poor score of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie didn’t hit the right spot in the critical aspect. Fortunately, Netflix’s strategy often focuses more on viewership than acclaim, an aspect “ATLAS” has nailed so far.

With a massive $100 million investment, the Jennifer Lopez-starred film began its streaming journey on the right foot. Despite early predictions of the thriller flopping both with critics and the audience, Rotten Tomatoes shows a contrast with a 55% public score favoring the movie. Only time will tell if “ATLAS” will continue having a good run as weeks pass by.
