Netflix, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery finally met with members of the WGA to put an end to the 2023 writers strike. A couple of months ago, the union denounced Hollywood’s current environment with their workers and demanded for better pay and working conditions.

The 2023 WGA strike started on May 2, 2023, and it took Hollywood by storm. Since then, several studios have had to halt all activities related to the production of their scripted TV shows and movies, as writers are an extremely important piece in the creative process. As a result, several productions have been greatly affected and delayed.

Surprisingly, both parties were able to discuss the current situation in order to reach an agreement for not extending the strike throughout the year. A close source to the negotiation told to CNBC’s David Faber that Hollywood studios and Writer’s union had a meeting on Wednesday

“The two sides met and hope to finalize a deal Thursday. However, if a deal is not reached the strike could last through the end of the year.”

Earlier this week, the writers’ union stated that they would resume negotiations with Hollywood studios, this marks the first time for both parties to come to a resolution since more than 11,000 film and TV writers went on strike. In the same vein, SAG-AFTRA and WAG unions are looking to reach a beneficial deal in order to improve the working conditions in the Hollywood industry.

After face to face meeting today, writers and producers near agreement to end WGA strike. Met today and hope to finalize deal tomorrow, according to people close to the negotiations, who, while optimistic, warn that without deal tomorrow strike likely continues through year end.
