But the part that stole the show was Meghan Markle’s emotional gesture towards Prince Harry. During the interview, anchor Jane Pauley touched on Meghan’s previous revelations about her thoughts of taking her own life. “You had an experience that connects you to these families,” Pauley said. Then, Meghan Markle placed her hand on Prince Harry’s knee, signaling protection and support.
Initially, the interviewer said that Meghan was “uncomfortable” with the interview going in that route, given the personal nature of the question. However, the Duke of Sussex responded with grace, saying:
“I understand why you are though. I wasn’t expecting it, but I understand why you are. Because there is a through-line, I think. When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey — certainly part of mine — is being able to be really open about it.”
