Amazon MGM has released the first official trailer for Masters of the Universe, a live-action adaptation of the classic animated series. The movie stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as the villain Skeletor. The story follows He-Man as he fights to protect the planet Eternia from Skeletor and his army. This recent sneak-peek introduces the film’s action-focused tone and its faithful adaptation to the original series.
The cast includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil Lyn, and Idris Elba as Duncan, also known as Man At Arms. Additional cast members include Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, and several others. The film is produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Mattel Films, and Escape Artists. The screenplay was written by Chris Butler, and the film is directed by Travis Knight.
After years of development changes, the project was officially greenlit in 2023. Knight and Butler were announced as director and writer in February 2024. Shooting for the movie began in London in January 2025. Meanwhile, Masters of the Universe is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026. The trailer marks the first full look at the film after more than a decade of development since its early stages in 2010 with Chris Butler’s screenplay.
