Bell died on June 12, and according to Hawai‘i police, there’s no foul play suspected. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause. Meanwhile, his sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, confirmed the sad news on Facebook on June 15, just weeks after the movie’s premiere. Bell’s agent also expressed sorrow, calling him “a gentle giant” who radiated aloha in every way.

Jalene shared emotional memories of her brother, calling him “the joy of a human” and “Prince of a Man.” They first met when she was 18, and their sibling bond only grew stronger with time. Bell made sure his family celebrated his Hollywood debut in style, getting the best seats in the house for Lilo and Stitch’s opening night in Kapolei. After the movie, they had plans to reenact a scene with shave ice, but even though the shop was closed, they still honored him with sweet treats and heartfelt memories.
