'KPop Demon Hunters' makes history at the Oscars

A few hours ago, ‘KPop Demon Hunters‘ won ‘Best Animated Feature Film‘ at the 2026 Oscars, making history for the Korean cinema industry and proving its global impact.

On Sunday, March 15, the awards ceremony was held, bringing together many Korean stars who worked in the production of ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ which was nominated in two important categories, ‘Best Animated Feature’ and ‘Best Original Song.’

Now, the movie was announced to be the winner in the category ‘Best Animated Feature,’ beating other renowned nominees like Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2,’ Pixar’s ‘Elio,’ ‘Arco,’ and ‘Little Amélie’ or ‘The Character of Rain.’

After receiving the award, the director of the movie, Maggie Kang, gave a speech dedicating this honor to all Koreans worldwide; the co-director, Chris Appelhans, gave some words to young filmmakers, while the producer, Michelle L.M. Wong, thanked his team, company, and family.

With this Oscar win, director Maggie Kang made history as the first person of South Korean descent to win in this category, while the movie was also previously awarded two categories at the Golden Globe, the same two at the Critics’ Choice Award, and one award at the PGA Award and swept 10 Annie Awards.
