Netflix has officially confirmed that KPop Demon Hunters will get a sequel. After months of speculation, the streamer announced that directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return for the upcoming installment. The news came just before the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15, 2026, where the animated musical was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.” In addition, the movie is expected to have a major spotlight during the ceremony with a special performance.

The KPop Demon Hunters film premiered in June 2025 and quickly became a major success. It told the story of HUNTR/X, a KPop girl group that uses music to protect the world from demons and slays them as a side job. According to Netflix, the movie became the most-watched film in the platform’s history and also produced several popular songs. With that level of success, Tudum reported that the sequel will be part of a multiyear writing and directing partnership with Kang and Appelhans. However, Netflix has not yet announced which cast members will return for the sequel.

The sequel news also arrived ahead of a live Oscars performance of “Golden” by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, the singing voices of HUNTR/X. On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Oscars executive producer Raj Kapoor and executive producer Katy Mullana said the performance would include traditional Korean instrumentalists and dance, spotlighting the cultural elements that surround the film. In addition to KPop Demon Hunters, the Miles Caton and Oscar-nominated songwriter Raphael Saadiq are set to perform the nominated song “I Lied to You.”

“This year, our music performances are inspired by two of the most powerful cultural phenomena in film: ‘Sinners,’ the most nominated film in Oscars history, and ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ a global pop culture sensation,” Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullana said.
