One quick question during a chat with Daniel Dae Kim turned into an insightful explanation of the animated Netflix hit. While promoting his new show Butterfly, Kim reflected on being part of the film’s wild success. Even though he voiced Healer Han, a minor role, he’s still feeling the movie’s colossal success.

KPop Demon Hunters, a film about a KPop trio conquering the stage as they protect people from demons, is still topping Netflix charts a month after its release. In addition, it’s being buzzed about for Oscars, with possible nominations for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature. Daniel Dae Kim gave credit to the growing trend of Korean stories taking center stage and celebrated the rise of Korean-American voices in Hollywood.
“This has really hit a nerve. And it’s actually kind of similar to Butterfly in a way. KPop Demon Hunters was conceived by some Korean Americans about dance and K-Pop in Korea.”

With millions of views on Netflix and the soundtrack songs topping the charts, it’s clear that a sequel is the way to go. But even if it doesn’t come, this film has already secured a place in the half of fame.
