On July 11th, during his speech in Cardiff, King Charles III made an emotional gesture to his firstborn, Prince William, on the occasion of his ascension to the new royal title he inherited when his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II died.

In his speech to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Senedd, the monarch said, “It has given me great pleasure to see my son’s relationship with this special land continue, including returning only this week to Anglesey—Ynys Mon—a place which I know means so much to him“, in a very emotional moment for his oldest son.

King Charles III continued his speech, saying, “It is with countless special memories and particular pride that I am able to join you as we reflect upon the last quarter—century of the history we have shared, and which you—in your work in this Senate—have the great responsibility of making“.

Prince William became the Prince of Wales, a title his father held for 64 years before becoming monarch, which is why the King fully understands the responsibilities that come with the title and expressed his pride in his son receiving it.
