The official coronation of the king Charles III of the United Kingdom is upon us, and a recent decision by Kate Middleton is the main topic of discussion among those interested. Though she aimed for the praise and acclaim of the environmentalists, it was a leap of faith that could also end up harming her public image.
In the last hours, multiple well-known newsletters from around the world have reported the decision of the princess of Wales regarding the coronation of her father-in-law, which will take place at the Westminster Abbey tomorrow, 6th of May. He’ll finally take the throne after the 70-year-long reign of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The Times newsletter reported that the future queen consort, wife of the heir to the throne prince William, will NOT wear the traditional diamond tiara that has been worn to the event for a very long time. Instead, the princess opted for a floral arrangement to portray an environmental approach to the event, which appears to be the main motto of the king Charles’ coronation, the environment awareness.
This decision is a neglect of the conservative values of the crown and its followers, who are mostly conservative people, who by the way, were expecting the usual glamorous yet controversial and out-of-style display of diamonds and precious expensive stones, not only from her, but from all the royal family members.
Geoffrey Munn, author of the book ‘Tiaras: A History of Splendor’, gave this approach to The Times newsletter when asked about the omission of this item during the coronation: “Tiaras are traditionally seen at formal affairs of state, regardless of how they look on the wearer”.
Hugo Vickers, author of multiple royal biographies, added: “Considering that a coronation is the most important state occasion in a reign, it would be disappointing to do less than at a state banquet, but I guess they want all the focus to be on the King and Queen.”
On the other hand, this initiative could get a lot of praise to Kate and the royal family in general thanks to the new culture of environmental awareness that arose in light of the climate change and the global warming.
Given this, the decision taken by Kate Middleton has been labeled as “dangerous”, as it could trigger both good and bad reviews.
