Before the world knew him as Prince George, Kate Middleton had another name in mind for her future king! That was none other than Alexander. Yes, the Princess of Wales, who stepped into the motherhood spotlight back in 2013, could’ve been set on a “Alexander,” a different choice from the name we all know and love.
Born on July 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was set to be a heart-stealer from the start. He is Prince William and Kate Middleton’s firstborn, brought into the world with a direct line to the British throne. Basically, queued up as the future heir, after his dad Prince William, passes away or abdicates.
Now, royal insider Katie Nicholl has some juice details on the name choice: despite Buckingham Palace insiders claiming that William and Kate didn’t peek at the baby’s gender, the Princess of Wales could’ve been set on “Alexander.” However, this wasn’t agreed with her husband, the Prince of Wales, so the couple hadn’t actually decided what to call their child at that point.
“Although Kate apparently suspected it was a boy and had set her heart on the name Alexander, they had not yet decided what to call their firstborn.”

Fast forward to now: Prince George is growing into his role as a young royal, possibly learning the ins and outs of being a prince and a future king. In contrast, mom Kate Middleton has stepped back from the royal spotlight after revealing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Still, she is making an effort to spread projects that support early childhood in the UK, such as her business taskforce “Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood.”
