Former NCT member Mark Lee has officially launched his own independent label, Upper Room, marking the beginning of a new stage in his career. The announcement was made on June 3, 2026, nearly two months after his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment ended on April 8, 2026. The decision follows a decade with the company, where Mark became one of the most recognizable members of NCT. Now, the artist is taking direct control of his future projects and creative direction as he begins a new solo chapter under his self-founded label.

SM Entertainment initially confirmed Mark’s departure on April 3, 2026, explaining that both sides had decided after extensive discussions about his long-term career plans. The company thanked him for his contributions over the past ten years and acknowledged his impact as both a group member and solo performer. Since making his debut with NCT U in 2016, Mark has built a reputation as a talented rapper, songwriter, and performer while promoting across several NCT units, such as NCT DREAM, NCT 127, NCT U, and SuperM.

The launch of Upper Room represents a major step for the Korean-Canadian artist as he moves forward independently. While NCT 127 will continue as a seven-member group and NCT DREAM as a six-member team, Mark is now focusing on building his own brand and musical identity under his new company.
