Rumors about former EXO member Kris Wu’s alleged death behind bars exploded across Chinese and Taiwanese media on November 13, 2025, dragging his name back into the spotlight. Initially, Mirror Media in Taiwan reported that rumors about the former idol’s death were circulating on Chinese social media platforms. An alleged inmate even said that he “heard from prison guards” that Wu had died suddenly, adding that people were saying local gang members were involved. However, these online claims haven’t been supported with actual evidence.
This isn’t the first time the former idol has been thought to be dead by online gossip. Back in March, the Canadian government criticized China for executing four Canadian citizens for drug trafficking. After that, many online users jumped to the conclusion that Wu, who also holds Canadian citizenship, might have been one of them. As of mid-November, Chinese authorities haven’t made any comment, yet state media has reminded everyone that spreading false information might provoke legal actions.

Kris Wu debuted with EXO in 2012 before leaving in 2014 after suing SM Entertainment to void his contract. Following his exit, he built a career and China as an actor and singer, but things took a turn in 2021. That same year, the former EXO member was accused of sexual misconduct by 24 individuals. He was later convicted and sentenced to 13 years in prison, with deportation to Canada scheduled after his sentence. For now, everything about his rumored death remains pure speculation, and no official updates on his status have been released.
