The plot of the First Doctor
Netflix is developing First Doctor, a new South Korean medical drama starring Kim Mu Yeol and Jung Ryeo Won. The series is being directed by Hong Jong Chan and written by Kim Min Seok, with Gil Pictures handling production. The plot revolves around a pediatric surgery department of a university hospital that is close to shutting down due to population decline and financial problems. At the center of the series are dedicated doctors who take responsibility for a child’s first surgery.
The cast of the upcoming K-Drama
So far, Kim Mu Yeol and Jung Ryeo Won are the two cast members reported for the upcoming show. Kim Mu Yeol is already familiar to Netflix viewers thanks to his work in series such as Sweet Home, Trolley, Queen Woo, and Juvenile Justice. Meanwhile, Jung Ryeo Won will play Heo Ji Wan, a pediatric surgeon who seems emotionally strong on the surface but has a caring, emotional side. Even though she has not starred in any other Netflix project, the actress is known for Diary of a Prosecutor, May It Please the Court, Wok of Love, and The Midnight Romance in Hagwon
When will the series be released?
At this stage, First Doctor is still in pre-production. Filming is scheduled to begin t in the second half of 2026. However, Netflix has not announced exact production dates yet, so there is also no official premiere date. Based on the current agenda, the K-Drama could premiere in late 2027 or early 2028. Until then, the show remains one of Netflix’s upcoming Korean dramas to watch, especially for viewers interested in emotional medical stories with a heartfelt human focus.
