BTS presented their brand new album in four years, “ARIRANG,” which was solely focused on showing the K-Culture. However, BTS’s music agency, HYBE, had other plans in mind when it came to shaping the concept of the comeback.
The album received mixed criticism from K-Netizens, stating the heavy use of English lyrics, while reducing the Korean influence that everyone loves. However, BTS actually had to push back against their own company to keep Korean lyrics in the album.
On March 24 KST, Dispatch reported that while the A&R team suggested writing lyrics in English to appeal to a global audience, the members insisted on keeping more lyrics in Korean. Ultimately, the idols were presenting a Korean concept, with almost non-existent Korean words.
“We need to include more Korean lyrics, even if just in the rap.”
