During a special BTS live stream on December 16, 2025, the members did what they have always done best with each other, jokes and teasing. Only this time, the target was Jin and his age. Jimin kicked things off by asking if Jin was turning 50 next year. RM joked that he was already somewhere around that. Then, J-Hope said Jin’s age changes every year, and V asked to be invited to Jin’s 60th birthday feast. Jungkook and RM followed up with jokes about a 60th birthday party, while Jin laughed it off and replied that the last time someone asked, they thought he was turning 70.
🐥 Hyung, aren't you turning 50 next year?

While many fans saw the moment as classic BTS banters, others did not find it funny at all! Some accused the members of age-shaming Jin, pointing out that they are all close in age and that the jokes felt offensive. The live stream footage started circulating online, with some fans defending Jin and connecting the jokes to dating-related controversies involving other members. In particular, Song Da Eun was mentioned, a lady who was rumored to be linked to Jimin and is reportedly older than Jin. These offended fans questioned why age jokes were acceptable in one context but criticized in another.
Despite the backlash, a large portion of the fandom defended the group, emphasizing that Jin himself was laughing and clearly comfortable with the jokes. Fans argued that this kind of banter has always been part of BTS’s dynamic and that reading malice into it was a stretch. Still, the moment shows how quickly interactions can turn into serious online discourse, especially if it’s about a BTS member. Even a joke can become an Internet headline, with controversies surrounding every single word.
