For a recent interview with Rolling Stone, BTS‘ Jimin talks about how his song ‘They Don’t Know ‘Bout Us‘ came about, revealing he received the help of his members and inspiration from ARMY.
Amid ‘ARIRANG‘ promotions with the magazine, the boys made solo interviews sharing important moments of their hiatus, the creation of their new album, their bond, and more about their individual perspective.
During Jimin’s interview, he was asked about the creation of their song ‘They Don’t Know ‘Bout Us,’ for which he was the main author and lyricist, but this day, the idol revealed that the first idea of the song came during a talk with his leader.
“One night after work, I was chatting with RM, and that phrase just popped out of our conversation like that. At first, I wanted to use the words ‘You make me weak,’ because those are what I really wanted to convey to ARMY. You all shaped us. You always treat us like we’re such amazing people. But it’s exactly because of that that we end up with no room to grow. I really wanted to express the feeling that you can make us ‘weak.'”
In the credits of the songs it is revealed that other members collaborated with the writing, such as RM, Suga, and J-Hope, along with producers Pdogg and GHSTLOOP, where they address the gap between public perception and members’ private reality.
“That’s where ‘They Don’t Know ’Bout Us’ was born. It started with just that. Gradually, the other members’ thoughts came into it too, but the core from the beginning was: No one knows how weak we really are.”
