K-pop superband BTS and British rock group Coldplay have released their collaboration single “My Universe” this Friday, kicking off what is expected to be a new cycle of topping high-profile music and event charts. The song was released on streaming services at 1:00 a. ()
m. along with a video with the official lyrics on Coldplay’s YouTube channel.
Almost 500,000 people watched the premiere, while thousands of fans flooded the live chat with messages and emoticons.

“My Universe” will be part of Coldplay’s ninth album, titled “Music of the Spheres“, which will be released on October 15th.
The soft pop dance track, with Korean and English lyrics, was co-written by the two groups and produced by hitmaker Max Martin. “You, you are / My universe / And I just want to put you first / And you, you are / My Universe / And you make my world light up inside,” says the chorus of the romantic song.
True to the title, the song plays dreamy sounds that seem to come from outer space and adds a bit of rap in Korean.
The expectation for “My Universe” was high for months, after rumors began to circulate of a possible collaboration between the two bands.

The song’s release was officially announced earlier this month, and video clips of BTS and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin were released later, performing music together in a Seoul studio. The videos supported eyewitness accounts that Martin had been seen in South Korea in April.
Increasing the anticipation before the song’s release, the 11 members of the two bands met in New York this week during BTS’ visit to the UN General Assembly as a special presidential envoy. Both bands posted a group photo on their Twitter accounts on Thursday, and Coldplay members were seen wearing a modified “hanbok.” The “hanbok” is the traditional Korean garb.
Also this month, BTS and Chris Martin appeared on the YouTube music show “RELEASED” together, to have a frank talk on various topics, including what it means to be famous. The song’s release will be followed by a documentary, titled “Inside My Universe,” on Sunday.
Billboard added that a “remix” of Supernova7 and an acoustic version of the song will be released later on that day (US time), followed by a video clip at an early date. Next week’s music charts will be watched closely, with a particular focus on the UK’s Official Music Charts, where BTS has reached No.
3 with “Dynamite” and “Butter.”
