BLACKPINK’s “Jump” is now one of the biggest songs in the world, but it almost never belonged to them! According to the song’s producer, Diplo, the track had been in the works since January 2024. Originally made for Major Lazer, the song took a wild turn through different artists before landing with BLACKPINK.

Diplo revealed he wanted the track to sound like early 2000s electroclash with a Latin twist. It was first passed to Argentine duo Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso, who recorded their own version. But after their Tiny Desk performance went viral, the song’s vibe no longer fit. After that, Diplo made his best efforts to persuade different artists to keep “Jump,” with the idea of including it on a Major Lazer album still on the table.
That’s when Diplo shared the song with Teddy Park, BLACKPINK’s producer, who immediately knew it was the perfect fit for them. Released on July 11, “Jump” marks BLACKPINK’s first new single in three years. The final version includes writing credits from an international team and production by Diplo, TEDDY, and 24. Diplo only heard the finished version after the quartet recorded it and sent it back to him. Basically, what started as a fun experiment became a global smash, proving that sometimes the wildest paths lead to the biggest hits.
