Billie Eilish responded to the strong criticism from Taylor Swift‘s fans for her comments about vinyl records through her Instagram stories, where she started by saying, “it would be so awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what I said in that billboard article“.
This controversy started after Eilish expressed in an interview with Billboard her current anger with artists who make the practice of releasing new vinyl variants, which is an edition of the same album with very minimal changes such as the cover or even just the color.
Billie Eilish tells Billboard why she uses recycled material for her vinyls — says some of the biggest artists in the world are releasing several different vinyl versions for numbers and money:

Billie Eilish said, “It’s so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me that we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money“. At this, the Swifties were offended as Taylor Swift released eight different versions of her 2020 album ‘Folklore’ and so far has released four of her album, ‘Midnights’.

These fans claim it is a direct message to the pop star and took to X to leave comments to Billie Eilish like, “You don’t want to mess with Taylor Swift fans you need to be smarter than that“, and also “I dare you to prove a point and not release ANY physical copies of your album“.
