According to royal biographer, Robert Hardman, Prince Harry began noting details for his memoir immediately after his grandmother’s death, allegedly using the personal grief of his family members to create literary material. This accusation was made at the Hay Literary Festival, igniting a debate about the reasons for the Duke’s actions.
“It’s not what Harry said, it’s the fact that he said it, and he gave away so many secrets. And he was, effectively, at the time of the Queen’s death, you know, he was taking notes.”
“Spare,” co-authored with JR Moehringer, was in the works since summer 2020 and revealed by Penguin Random House only in mid-2021 as a literary bombshell. The book’s premise was to be “intimate and heartfelt,” and it includes several revelations going from Prince Harry’s youth experiences to his critical views on the royal family.
