(G)I-DLE just flipped the script on May 1 by lowkey rebranding as i-dle. Yep, they dropped the “G” from their name—socials updated, promo stuff changed, and some are feeling a bit confused. The makeover comes right before their 7th anniversary, marking the start of a new era. But what does it all mean?

The group’s name has always been more than just letters. The “G” stood for “girl,” but was always silent, symbolizing how the members couldn’t be boxed into one label. Since Soojin’s departure in 2021, the five-member group has been doing their thing, and now fans think the change is both a fresh start and maybe a tribute.

They recently dropped a special mini-album titled “We are i-dle,” which contains re-recordings of their previous hits without member Soojin. This could possibly hint at the group closing out the chapter of her exit from the group after a bullying scandal. Right on cue, i-dle announced their comeback “For (G),” a brand-new mini-album dropping May 19. The title has fans playing detective: “Forget”? “For Girl”? “For Growth”? No one knows for sure, but one thing’s clear—I-DLE isn’t just changing a name, they’re evolving.
