Zootopia 2 just showed up at the global box office and decided to break every record in sight! After hitting theaters on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the sequel raced through the Thanksgiving weekend with a massive five-day total of approximately $156 million in North America and an incredible $556 million worldwide. By November 30, it had officially become the biggest global opening for any animated film ever.
Disney celebrated the moment, calling it a proud win for the entire team and a perfect start to the holiday season. The movie also scored the second-largest Thanksgiving debut in North America, landing just behind Moana 2 from 2024. With returning stars like Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, plus an A-list cast featuring Ke Huy Quan, Shakira, Danny Trejo, Ed Sheeran, and more, the sequel brings fans right back into the animal world people have loved since 2016.
“It’s a proud moment for Disney Animation and all of us at Disney, not to mention a great way to start the holiday season,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a press release.
“The real fun thing about Zootopia is that you can identify with an animal. That’s you, that’s your friend, that’s your teacher, that’s a guy you saw at the DMV,” Zootopia 2’s writer-director Jared Bush explained in a press release.
The film’s success also comes during a busy season for musicals and fantasy releases. Wicked For Good, which premiered on November 21, added another $62.8 million to its domestic gross over the weekend. It has already earned more than $393 million globally, putting it on track to follow the first Wicked movie that passed the $750 million mark in 2024. Zootopia 2 is clearly the icon, the legend, the moment, and the box office numbers are making sure everybody knows it.
