Valentino Garavani, the legendary and iconic founder of the Italian fashion house Valentino, has passed away at the age of 93. Garavani marked the end of an era in global haute couture, as he is revered as one of the most influential designers of the century, leaving behind a legacy defined by an unmistakable shade known as “Valentino Red.”
Despite Garavani retiring in 2008 after a celebrated final couture show in Paris, his global influence remained until this day, shaping the brand and evolving Valentino into one of the most prestigious houses in history.
On January 19, the Giancarlo Giammetti and Valentino Garavani’s foundation, fondazionevggg, released a short statement regarding Garavani’s death, highlighting that he died surrounded by his loved ones at his Roman residence.
The laying in state will be held at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 on Wednesday, January 21st, and Thursday, January 22nd. In addition, Valentino’s funeral will take place on Friday, January 23rd, at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, in Piazza della Repubblica 8 in Rome.
