TWICE’s Tzuyu is reportedly facing pressure related to working in China while discussing her contract renewal with JYP Entertainment. Taiwanese media outlets, including Mirror Media, reported on August 31, 2026, that Zhao Xiaowei, a prominent figure in Taiwan’s entertainment industry, had contacted Tzuyu’s family about possible opportunities in the Chinese market.
According to the report, Zhao had previously contacted Tzuyu’s mother in August 2025, when the singer had approximately one year remaining on her contract with the South Korean agency. The reported proposal included promises to appear on major television networks and support for large-scale concerts in China. However, the condition was for Tzuyu to publicly state her political positions regarding “One China” or the statement that “Taiwanese are Chinese.”
“There has been no formal cooperation agreement, and Tzuyu and JYP Entertainment are currently discussing whether to renew their contract, so the related discussions have been put on hold for now,” Zhao shared.
Zhao Xiaowei said no official cooperation agreement had been signed and that discussions about Tzuyu’s activities in China had not progressed because she and JYP Entertainment are currently discussing her contract renewal as a member of TWICE. He also denied that the contact had political motivations. Meanwhile, TWICE debuted in 2015 and is reportedly discussing new contracts with JYP. According to the report, Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung have not renewed their contracts and have left the agency for their solo endeavors, while negotiations involving Tzuyu and the remaining members are still ongoing.
