Amid the confirmation of a new generation of royals attending Eton College, the story behind the real reason Princess Diana broke royal tradition and took her children to emerge on media outlets.
In September this year, Prince George will start his journey at the all-boys boarding school following his father’s footsteps, which the late Princess of Wales traced for her family years ago, changing the rules for royalty.
Previously, male members of the British royal family, such as King Charles, and his father, Prince Philip, used to attend Gordonstoun in the Scottish Highlands, which is well-known for its strict discipline and rigorous demands of students.
However, author Simon Vigar revealed in his new biography, ‘The Four Wives of Windsor,’ that Prince William going to Eton College was “very much a Diana decision,” which broke royal tradition, but it gave her the peace of mind of having her children close by.
“Her brother and father went there, and of course, it was much closer to home than Gordonstoun, where Charles wasn’t happy anyway.”
Now, Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s eldest son will follow this new tradition by starting at Eton College after checking many options, and according to a close source to the family, “George has always wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps.”
