A new chapter arrives with a surprise first look

The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping trailer is arriving exactly one year before its official premiere on November 20, 2026, and fans are barely catching their breath! The first look instantly set the internet on fire thanks to the film’s A-list cast. Glenn Close, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Jesse Plemons, Billy Porter, and more step into a new era in Panem, ready for the mayhem to begin.

A young Haymitch takes center stage

This new prequel zooms in on a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, long before he became the mentor viewers met in the original films. The story unfolds twenty-four years before Katniss picks up a bow, starting right on the morning of the reaping for the Fiftieth Hunger Games, better known as the infamous Second Quarter Quell. This comes as an origin story for one of the saga’s most iconic characters. Meanwhile, Francis Lawrence returns to direct, with Billy Ray adapting the screenplay and Color Force producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson back in action.

A blockbuster franchise with strong momentum

The Hunger Games universe is not slowing down! The five previous films have already racked up more than $3.3 billion at the global box office. The book Sunrise On The Reaping also made its own headlines by selling 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The United States alone saw 1.2 million copies fly off the shelves, doubling down on the first-week numbers of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and tripling those of Mockingjay. If the numbers are any preview, the saga is gearing up for another monster hit.
