Stranger Things may be reaching its grand finale, but fans can breathe… maybe! Matt and Ross Duffer have hinted that a secret spinoff could already be in the works. In an interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, the Duffers discussed Volume 2 of Season 5 and all the chaos leading up to the official end. When asked whether rumors of a spinoff were true, they played it cool, but the internet is convinced something big is coming. Nancy Wheeler has been rumored as the focus, but Matt Duffer teased that any new show could feature a brand-new cast and a brand-new location.

“We tried as much as possible to answer all the questions as it relates to the characters and mythology of Hawkins in the Upside Down. We’re really closing the door and all that. And the spinoff, it relates in some ways, but it really is a completely different story and a completely different location with completely different actors and characters. So it’s its own. It’s really its own entity,” Matt Duffer revealed.

This series first hit Netflix in 2016 and became a global phenomenon. The show brought live-action world events, a Broadway show called Stranger Things: The First Shadow, and over $1.4 billion added to the U.S. GDP. Currently, Season 5 Volume 2 revealed Holly Wheeler and Max Mayfield trapped inside Vecna’s mindscape, something Holly called Camazotz. Meanwhile, the Upside Down is revealed to actually be d as a wormhole connecting Hawkins to a terrifying planetary dimension known as The Abyss. Yet, the Hawkins crew continues working together to take down Vecna.

Meanwhile, fans continue wondering if that rumored spin-off will ever see the light of day. As they wait, it has been revealed that Duffer Brothers have a new four-year deal with Paramount, so they might take a breather before stepping back into the Hawkins world. For now, fans can stream the Season Finale with Volume 1 and 2 on Netflix, with the final episode dropping on December 31, 2025.
