Sabrina Carpenter beats Ariana Grande’s United Kingdom chart record

Sabrina Carpenter is one of the indisputable pop queens of 2024! Her latest hits have helped her set a new milestone in the UK music charts, becoming the youngest female artist to claim the top two spots of the singles chart in the same week. Her most recent bop “Please Please Please,” climbed to No.1 in the United Kingdom, nudging her own track “Espresso,” which had reigned the chart supreme for five weeks, dropping to No. 2.

Here are the numbers: “Please Please Please” racked up an impressive 9.8 million combined streams, while “Espresso” maintained a strong performance with 8.1 million streams. With this, Sabrina Carpenter becomes the youngest person to hold the record at just 25 years, one month, and 10 days old. 

This feat was previously achieved by Ariana Grande, who was about six months older when she shook up the United Kingdom charts. It all went down in February 2019 with her singles “7 Rings” at No.1 and “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” sitting at the second spot on the UK Singles Charts.

We’re seeing a generational switch-up in music, with Gen Z stars taking over the charts. Make no mistake, Ariana Grande’s singles and her “thank u next” era remain as one of the most iconic ones in recent pop music. However, as more recent bops keep coming, more records will be broken!
