Michael Jackson’s streaming revival: The newly released movie brings new attention to major hits

The release of Michael caused a major rise in streams for Jackson’s solo catalog and his family group recordings

The film increases interest in Michael Jackson’s music

Michael Jackson’s music had a major streaming increase after the biopic Michael opened widely in theaters on April 24, 2026. According to early reports submitted to Luminate, the artist’s solo catalog earned 47.9 million official on-demand streams in the United States from April 24 to April 26, 2026. That marked a 116% increase compared with the previous weekend, from April 17 to April 19, 2026.

Group catalogs also gain new listeners

The Michael movie not only helped Michael Jackson’s solo songs find new traction. The Jackson 5 catalog also reached new streaming records. For example, 3.4 million streams from April 24 to April 26, 2026, which was up 89 percent from the same days one week earlier. The Jacksons also gained attention, with 1.8 million streams during the same three-day period. That marked a 104 percent increase from the prior comparison period.

Hit songs lead the streaming surge

Michael Jackson’s songs have become timeless cultural hits, but there is still no denying that the premiere of his biopic had fans and listeners revisiting many tracks. For example, “Billie Jean,” his most-streamed track, earned 4 million U.S. on-demand streams. “Beat It” followed with 2.9 million plays, while “Rock With You” reached 2.4 million, and “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” earned 2.3 million.

Meanwhile, Michael stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, as Michael Jackson himself and covers the artist’s rise from 1966 to 1988. Its strong box office opening, including $97 million in North America and $218.8 million worldwide, helped push new attention toward his catalog. The film has already been green-lit for a sequel, but details regarding its next installment remain to be announced.
