Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, the name of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s smallest child, has stirred up debate within the royal family. As Lilibet was Queen Elizabeth’s nickname, the decision to use the name as a tribute to the late queen has drawn harsh criticism from some who see it as disrespectful and an infringement on the monarch’s privacy.
Others, on the other hand, have justified the decision to use the name as a heartfelt tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II and a touching act of goodwill. The queen was surprised to discover that the child had her nickname when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry asked the monarch if it was alright to use her name for their second daughter. The queen had assumed they would name the child Elizabeth, after herself.
Lilibet has been welcomed by her parents and the royal family with great love and joy despite the controversy her name has caused. The young child is the seventh in line for the British throne and is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-younger Windsor’s sibling.
