King Charles III is back again at the international highlight after meeting with the members of Afghanistan’s women’s cricket team at Clarence House. The King has offered a symbolic show of support to athletes forced into exile after the Taliban banned women’s sports in Afghanistan.
The historic meeting took place as the team arrived in England for exhibition matches during the women’s T20 World Cup season. These exiled women shared their stories of escaping Afghanistan and leaving behind families and careers in order to continue pursuing cricket. Many of them are currently living as refugees in Australia after fleeing the country during the Taliban takeover in 2021.

The team was set up during the Afghan Republic in 2010, but lost recognition as a national team following the Taliban’s return to power. In Afghanistan, women and girls are banned… pic.twitter.com/LlIsksgdQ9

The Monarch of the United Kingdom welcomed the players warmly, highlighting that he was pleased they could continue following their ambitions despite the circumstances. Once again, the King not only showcased his unwavering support but his funniest side as he joked that if they lost any upcoming matches, they could blame him for interrupting their training.
