King Charles III has been officially invited to attend the 150th Commemoration of Treaty 6 at Fort Carlton this August. The offer has been reciprocated as the Monarch of the United Kingdom will be reunited with a delegation this week.

On March 11, it was announced that seven Treaty 6 leaders travelled to London to meet King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation Chief Larry Ahenakew explained they invited the King to the celebration as they wanted to celebrate the partnership between the two parties.

Ahtahkakoop took the lead on inviting the head of the British Crown to reaffirm the continued relationship between Treaty 6 First Nations and the Crown for as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and the rivers flow.”

The Chief also said that this visit is completely rare as they probably won’t come back for another 25 years, so we want to make the best of our time with the King. This is a special moment for King Charles III to showcase unity with diverse nations and celebrate the diversity of the people.
