Jeon Somi is back in the spotlight with her second mini-album EP, Chaotic & Confused, released after a year-long break. This five-track project dives deep into her personal journey, unveiling a journey of self-discovery. Somi first rose to fame in 2016 after winning Produce 101 and debuting with I.O.I. But she’s been carving her own path as a soloist under The Black Label since 2018. Now at 24, she calls this EP a milestone that captures the pressures and creative drive of nearly a decade in the industry.
The lead single, Closer, is a spicy blend of airy guitar riffs and house beats, sampling Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” while reinventing it with Somi’s charming twist. The singer says the track mirrors “a beautifully crooked dream,” representing her search for herself in uncertain times. The EP also explores different music styles, including pop-punk, nu-disco, R&B, and dance-pop. For this mini-album, Somi herself contributed to songwriting, composition, visuals, and performance concepts.
Working alongside renowned producer Teddy and the more laid-back Vince, Somi pushed her sound in new ways. She credits Teddy for challenging her vocal abilities and Vince for trusting her instincts. Looking forward, the singer aims to keep delivering music that’s uniquely hers, combining strong messages with performances that fans will remember.
