Netflix confirmed the series will end with a film
Netflix announced on April 22, 2025, that Heartstopper would not continue with a fourth season. Instead, the series will end with a feature film titled Heartstopper Forever. The announcement was made on the third anniversary of the release of season one, which first premiered in April 2022. This means the movie will serve as the end of Nick and Charlie’s story. Instead of extending the series with another full season, Netflix chose a film to close out the queer coming-of-age story.
The names behind the upcoming film
Heartstopper Forever has been confirmed to adapt Volume Six, which is the final volume of Alice Oseman’s series. The author has confirmed on multiple occasions that this project is meant to close the Netflix adaptation. In addition, Netflix selected Wash Westmoreland to direct the film, and he is known for projects such as Still Alice and Colette. Kit Connor and Joe Locke are also serving as executive producers, adding a stronger connection between the cast and the final installment. Filming for the movie officially wrapped up on July 27, 2025, when Oseman and members of the cast shared photos and messages from the last day on set.
Taking to Instagram, the author posted a close-up of a tree with a N+C iscription carved into a heart. Oseman talked about how much Heartstopper meant to her and thanked everyone who had been part of the series. At the same time, the protagonists Kit Connor and Joe Locke posted pictures to commemorate the wrap-up. Locke took a film photo with Connor by the seaside, while Connor posted a picture of the two, saying, “thank you for everything.”
The premiere is expected at some point in 2026
Netflix and Oseman confirmed on July 28, 2025, that Heartstopper Forever will premiere at some point in 2026, although an exact release date has not yet been announced. However, there is now a better idea of the timeline because Alice Oseman announced on February 16, 2026, that Heartstopper Volume Six will be released on July 2, 2026. The author explained that the movie would not arrive before the last book. Because of their announcement, the film is expected to premiere after July 2, 2026, likely during the summer that year. Fans still have to wait for Netflix to reveal the exact date, but the final stage of the story is now set and ready to go.
