Accirding an exclusive report, Cha Eun Woo faces charges of tax evasion amounting to approximately $13.6 million by setting up a “paper company” with his mother and his agency responds in defense of the idol.

On January 22nd, the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted an intense tax audit over the singer’s earnings in the first half of 2025, investigating the distribution of his earnings through three channels: Fantagio, the company set up with his mother, and himself.

Due to this, it’s suspected that Cha Eun Woo may have evaded as much as 20 billion KRW or 13.6 million USD in taxes by channeling part of earnings to a “paper company”, which its believed to be his mother company, and paying corporate tax, instead of private tax.

Later, the actor, who is currently serving in the military, was defended by his company who shared a statement regarding the issue:

“The core issue of this matter lies in whether or not the company set up by Cha Eun Woo’s mother is eligible for taxation. The suspicions raised have not been confirmed nor declared true, and through the appropriate legal measures, we plan to identify any subjective interpretations of the laws and justify the decisions made.

In this regard, the artist and his accountant fully intend on cooperating with the investigation so as to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.”
