In 2020, the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) implemented a new certification system to recognize online song streams, in addition to its existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales.
The new system awards silver certification at 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, and platinum at 100 million streams. Now, Jimin’s “WHO” has reached platinum certification after surpassing 100 million streams in Japan. It is Jimin’s first song to go platinum for streaming in Japan, making it an even more special achievement.
