Breaking Royal tradition: Garden party to welcome King Charles III to the U.S.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla Parker will visit the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump from April 27 to April 30. The Monarchs will be celebrating the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the two nations, marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. However, they are set to break one royal tradition in this special visit.

According to an invitation obtained by the Washington Examiner’s Rob Crilly, an upcoming royal garden party to welcome King Charles III to the United States has taken on an unconventional dress code. Along with a customary dress code of lounge suits and day dresses, the invitation reads, “Hats Not Encouraged.”

The dress code for a royal golden party, a tradition dating back centuries in the United Kingdom, includes lounge or business suits for men and day dresses for women, usually paired with hats or fascinators. However, the tradition is broken with the White House invitation, marking another moment of modern monarchy.

Despite the Royal Family hosting three garden parties over the year, the Royal garden parties in the United States are rare, with the last notable instance during a visit from King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Are you ready to see all the pictures of his historic meeting?
