When BLACKPINK’s Lisa casually co-signed LABUBU in 2024, she flipped the entire collectible world upside down. These little figures were created by artist Kasing Lung in 2015 for his The Monsters book series, existing quietly for years. Things took a turn in 2016, after LABUBU gained niche attention from Chinese collectors and expanded through a Pop Mart collaboration in 2019.

Things escalated when BLACKPINK’s Lisa endorsed the LABUBU brand, and the collectibles grew into full global chaos mode. As soon as the “New Woman” singer was seen with a LABUBU, the demand exploded across continents, and Pop Mart suddenly found itself racing to keep shelves stocked. The Thai sensation was photographed with the toys hanging from her designer bags or her belts multiple times, and she even accessorized one of her DEADLINE World Tour stage outfits with a pink LABUBU.
Collecting and price madness
Lisa’s influence transformed Labubu from a collector’s item into a fashion statement. Lung himself told Hypebeast that “Labubu is the only defense from hardcore collectors,” explaining that everyday fans now buy them as bag charms and not only for display cases. Just like that, LABUBU was no longer a collectible; it became mainstream with people of all demographics incorporating the brand into their everyday lives.
Of course, Lisa-level hype comes with insanity! As the brand escalated in fame, some of their little monsters have increased in price. While they typically retail for for $20 to $30 USD, rare versions have reached absurd prices. In mid 2025, a Vans x Labubu sold for $10,585 USD on eBay, while a set of 48 Labubus fetched roughly $520,000 USD at auction in Beijing.
