Billie Eilish is reportedly in talks to star in The Bell Jar, a new film adaptation directed by Sarah Polley. The news started moving across social on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. If the deal is actually true and moves forward, the project would mark Billie Eilish’s movie acting debut. Although she is already well-known in the film world for her contributions with songs such as Barbie’s “What Was I Made For?” and James Bond’s “No Time To Die,” this would be her first major acting role in a feature film. The singer has already won two Academy Awards for the aforementioned songs, which she co-wrote with her brother Finneas.
The movie will be based on Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar, which was published in 1963. It was the only work Plath published during her lifetime. The author died later that same year at age 30 by suicide. The story follows Esther Greenwood, a young woman whose mental health worsens while she tries to build a future for herself in New York City. According to Deadline, the “Birds of a Feather” hitmaker is expected to play Esther.
Billie Eilish has made appearances on television prior to The Bell Jar talks. She appeared in an episode of the Prime Video series Swarm in 2023. Fans will also see her on screen soon in Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft, a 3D concert documentary set for theatrical release on May 8, 2026. The concert movie follows the making of her 2024 album “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” which helped her win Song of the Year at the 2026 Grammy Awards in February thanks to “Wildflower.”
