Since their introduction to the world, BigHit Music‘s new boy group, CORTIS, was received with great excitement among their agency colleagues and their fans; however, after their first song was released, they were mocked over their Spotify debut.
On August 18th, the boy group released their debut song, ‘What You Want‘, arriving this day to streaming platforms like Spotify, receiving an amount of 133,647 streams in its first day, and getting attention on social networks.
A famous X account that shared CORTIS’s achievement received several comments from netizens comparing their debut with other groups from smaller companies, as many were expecting that the group would receive more streams, as their company is part of HYBE and the BTS agency.
Some comments were: “‘In Bloom’ by @ZB1_official debuts on Spotify with 723,689 streams”, “‘BOYtude’ by idntt debuts with 552,187 streams on Spotify Counter”, “Group from small company outstream and outsell lol”, “even with all that hybe payola??😭😭😭😭”, “I’ve seen bigger numbers tbh”, “flopped”.
However, there were many defending the new artists: “CORTIS quietly breaking the counter, respect 😤”, “A good number for a new group. Hopefully the number will only rise from here”, “Congratulations guys ✨”, “Why are people comparing in the quotes like it’s a contest”.
