{"id":22933,"date":"2022-03-02T16:24:29","date_gmt":"2022-03-03T00:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicmundial.com\/en\/?p=22933"},"modified":"2022-03-02T16:24:29","modified_gmt":"2022-03-03T00:24:29","slug":"dua-lipa-is-sued-for-alleged-plagiarism-with-the-song-levitating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicmundial.com\/en\/dua-lipa-is-sued-for-alleged-plagiarism-with-the-song-levitating\/","title":{"rendered":"Dua Lipa is sued for alleged plagiarism with the song &#8216;Levitating&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two years after its official release, as part of the album \u201cFuture Nostalgia\u201d, and after becoming a huge success on the charts around the world, <strong>Dua Lipa<\/strong>&#8216;s \u201c<strong>Levitating<\/strong>\u201d is accused of being a <strong>plagiarism<\/strong> of a track released in 2017 by <strong>Artikal Sound System<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed this Wednesday, March 1st, and compares \u201cLevitating\u201d to the song \u201c<strong>Live Your Life<\/strong>\u201d , released in 2017 by reggae band Artikal Sound System, as part of the \u201c<strong>Smoke and Mirrors<\/strong>\u201d EP.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\">\n        <blockquote hcb-fetch-image-from=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PopCrave\/status\/1499092097906843652\" class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">American band Artikal Sound System is suing Dua Lipa and Warner Records for copyright infringement after claiming that Lipa\u2019s smash hit \u201cLevitating\u201d ripped off their 2017 track, \u201cLive Your Life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band is asking for any profits they may have made off of the song plus damages. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XfEHed8nKp\">https:\/\/t.co\/XfEHed8nKp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Pop Crave (@PopCrave) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PopCrave\/status\/1499092097906843652?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 2, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n        <\/figure>\n        \n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The accusers claim that Dua Lipa had access to the early version of &#8220;Live Your Life&#8221;, but they do not explain the reasons they believe the singer heard the song and thus copied it. The band also claims that the two tracks are very similar and that it is &#8220;<em><strong>very unlikely that &#8216;Levitating&#8217; was created independently<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; to &#8220;Live You Life&#8221; .<\/p>\n<p>You may also like: <\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also includes as defendants in alleged plagiarism in &#8220;Levitating&#8221; <strong>Warner Records<\/strong>, Dua&#8217;s record company, and everyone who worked on the track&#8217;s creation, including producers and songwriters.
