In a recent interview for Variety\u2019s \u201cUp Next\u201d podcast, Yunjin said that watching BTS perform \u201cDNA\u201d at the American Music Awards on November 19, 2017, became a turning point in her life. Growing up between Seoul, Wisconsin, and New York, she often struggled with her identity as a Korean-American person. She trained for years, competed on the survival show \u201cProduce 48\u201d in 2018, and experienced several setbacks. After four years without debuting as a KPop artist, she decided to come back to New York. During her return to the city, Yunjin applied to colleges, was accepted, and even paid a deposit to attend school. Then, one day later, she received a call offering her a place in LE SSERAFIM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt literally felt like the stars were telling me where to go,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n<h2>Music remained the dream she could not leave behind<\/h2>\n<p>The 24-year-old explained that her time away from South Korea made her realize she could not let go of music or her dream of telling stories through songs. Within two weeks of receiving the call, she returned to South Korea and began preparing for her debut with LE SSERAFIM. She also spoke about the group\u2019s members, saying. \u201cThey truly are my sisters,\u201d sharing a strong connection that goes beyond words.\u201cA lot of it is non-verbal.
