Mike Flanagan isn’t thinking small about Carrie. In September 2026, the director told Collider he hopes to tell the story across three seasons on Prime Video. For now, though, the streamer hasn’t renewed the series for a second season.
Flanagan sees the story as a three-part arc, and he sums it up in one line: “It’s a trilogy, really.”
The new take on Stephen King’s 1974 novel premiered Oct. 7 on Prime Video. It updates the story for the social media era and pushes the violence further than the original 1976 film.
What is Carrie about?
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, a teenager who lives with her mother, Margaret White (Samantha Sloyan). She has to start at a new school after her father’s death. There she becomes the target of cruelty amplified by social media and anonymous trolls. One of her tormentors is Chris Hargensen (Alison Thornton), who creates a fake Instagram account to post photos and videos of Carrie.
Her only friend is Emaline West (Thalia Dudek), a strange girl nobody else can see, who urges Carrie to embrace her telekinetic powers. When the feud boils over and Chris is expelled, Tommy Ross (Joel Oulette) invites Carrie to prom to set things right. Chris, angrier than ever, plots to ruin the night with her boyfriend, Billy Nolan (Arthur Conti).
