The song was written with direct participation from members HAN and Seungmin, who helped compose it and worked on the lyrics. “별, 빛 (STAY)” is described as a guitar and piano ballad that tells a story about people walking under the same sky and leaning on each other. The lyrics use images of stars and the universe, which are also reflected in the official artwork for the single. The visual identity links the track with Stray Kids’ official lightstick, and each of the eight members created a star for the cover, making the release feel even more personal for fans.
Stray Kids first debuted with the EP I Am Not in 2018, followed by I Am Who and I Am You later that same year. In 2020, the group released their first full album, GO生.
