PSY faces legal action over alleged illegal prescription

PSY is back in the Kpop headlines for all the wrong reasons after the idol was summarily indicted over allegations that he received prescriptions for psychotropic medications without in-person medical consultations. The idol now faces audience scrutiny once again amid a comeback.

On August 26, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office summarily indicted PSY and Professor A on July 22 for potentially violating the Medical Service Act. Even PSY’s manager has received a suspended indictment.

The report highlights that PSY obtained g Xanax and Stilnox prescriptions between 2022 and last year without being personally examined. The professor was also allegedly issued the prescriptions without conducting in-person consultations.

The case became infamous in South Korea as Xanax and Stilnox are psychotropic medications subject to stricter controls due to their potential for misuse and dependence. Ultimately, PSY hasn’t cleared the air over the controversy, as he might be paying a fine without a formal trial, although either side can request court proceedings.
