Prince William says Princess Kate Middleton spends her nights reading research papers
Prince William offered a rare glimpse into family life with Princess Kate Middleton during a radio interview on May 22, 2026. While speaking with Heart Breakfast hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden from the Isles of Scilly, the father of three explained that his wife often spends her evenings focused on early childhood development research. According to the Prince of Wales, Kate has become deeply involved in the work connected to her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, especially after returning from her visit to Italy this year.

“She wanted to go and do lots of research. She spends, God knows how much time now, looking through all the paperwork,” the 43-year-old prince revealed.
Kate Middleton returned “buzzing” after her Italy trip
The Princess of Wales traveled to Italy to learn more about the Reggio Emilia educational approach, which focuses on child-centered learning. Kate Middleton’s visit to the country marked her first solo overseas trip in nearly four years and also her first since her cancer diagnosis. Prince William explained that his wife spent a large amount of time reviewing reports and documents connected to her work. He joked that many evenings, he struggles to get through the bedroom because paperwork is spread everywhere while she reads and studies.

“She’s a proper pro on early years. Most evenings, I’m fighting to get past in the bedroom, what paperwork that she’s got lined up, ready to read. So, I’m pleased it went well for her — I think she came back buzzing,” Prince William revealed.
Prince William praised Kate Middleton for her strength
The Prince of Wales also spoke highly about his wife’s resilience and everything she has faced over the last few years. He said he was very proud of her and happy that the trip went smoothly. Prince William added that Kate had been looking forward to the Italy visit for a long time and came back full of energy and excitement.
“So proud, very, very proud. She’s been amazing. She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. And yeah, she’d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot. and so I’m really glad it went really well.”
