King Charles III has become one of the most well-known monarchs of all time for his reign after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. The King’s cypher has been delivered to one of the world’s most remote locations: a British research station in Antarctica.

On December 14, scientists at Rothera Research Station received an anticipated Christmas present from the Royal Family. An iconic red box was exactly what Kirsten Shaw asked, after the assistant asked for support for the station.

Shaw wrote to the King asking for a replacement for the base’s hand-painted replica post box. The Royal Household was moved by the letter and worked with Royal Mail to donate a new official lamp post box.

The red box arrived aboard the UK’s polar research. The station leader, Aurelia Reichardt, described the gift as “a piece of home,” saying it lifted morale and encouraged staff to stay connected with loved ones. What an amazing gift from King Charles III.
