Who would’ve guessed that BTS would be outstreamed by a bunch of animated idols? And by the Saja Boys, a fictional boy band from the new Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters, who just broke BTS’s long-held U.S. Spotify record. On June 20, the movie dropped and quickly exploded, blending demon-slaying with idol glamour. But what fans didn’t see coming was how real the music from this animated flick would become.

Voiced by a mix of actors and K-pop performers, the Saja Boys play the film’s villains, but that didn’t stop them from hitting the charts. Their track “Your Idol” climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. Spotify chart, beating BTS’s “Dynamite,” which peaked at No. 3 back in 2020. Similarly, the girl group from the same film, HUNTR/X, also soared to No. 2 with “Golden,” surpassing BLACKPINK for the highest-charting K-pop girl group in the U.S. Yes, fictional idols are out here setting records!
